stuff i added to my blog
I actually changed a lot on this blog since it was created and especially in the last 3 months! Maybe thereās things youād like to do, too, or it gives you a way to showcase what youāve been waiting to put out.
- The now page - very popular, but included for the ones who donāt know about it yet.
- A yes/nope page detailing some of my values and direction.
- A page detailing why and how I blog.
- A page showing what I stuff I use, from hardware over software to skincare and some game stuff.
- A spot to showcase and track a growing brickset collection. You could do this with a collection of yours.
- A page detailing what I wish for and whatās important to me when I receive gifts. It was originally just a post because I was inspired to talk about it after my last birthday, but I edited it and turned it into a page - the people that know me well know this, obviously, but it can be nice to read or check up on when other people donāt know what to gift you and donāt want to explicitly ask.
- Since it could be that others unfamiliar with this side of the web come across it when stuff is linked elsewhere, I have a page explaining RSS and Atom, and a page explaining this space and what to expect from it.
- A page dedicated to me noticing some shared themes across blog posts that I donāt want to be their own tag, so I highlighted them separately.
- Creating a new blog posts page where posts are sorted by year instead of the default huge list. I did this by creating a new page, tagging all posts retroactively with their year (aughā¦) and using the Embedded post list feature in the Bearblog Docs for each year, then changing the link in the Nav bar.
- Showing the date this blog was created and the last posting time via the sparkline things Bearblog offers in the Docs on my home page.
- A āfun zoneā page where I share memes I like and YT videos that made me laugh. Maybe it picks people up, we find a shared interest or people get to know my humor. I also sometimes ask myself if people are hesitant to switch to this side of the web because funny, positively low-effort and easy to consume content is missing, so why not.
- Sharing my favorite playlists on my garden page.
- Integrating my Spotify listening habits without needing last.fm through using this tool I have it in my now page.
- A āwhen i dieā page saying what the plans are for the blog when you die, what will happen to the domains, where it is backed up (if at all) etc. Would love for this to become a common slashpage!
- A tags section that is now its own page.
- A space showing the most recent and the most popular posts - in my case, the home page.
- A post documenting my websiteās design journey, and I should probably also create one for this blog.
- Post detailing my blog code for ease of access.
- A gallery page.
- An underappreciated Paint page!! No one drew me anything yet :p
- A 88x31 button to link me; itās in my footer. My website also has a separate one.
- A bookmarks page.
- A blogroll (mine is currently being reworked, but it existed and will likely come back!).
- A counters page with life milestones that also features progress bars for some ongoing projects.
- A testimonials page, basically. This is continuously taking courage to keep up because I guess weāre all afraid of sounding narcissistic if weāre proud of what we do, showcasing achievements or praise, but this is an exercise in persisting in spite of that.
- A page to discover more people like me.
More ideas I havenāt yet done but you might want to:
- Add a CO2 output widget (there are several) - canāt know how accurate it is, though.
- Add a Creative Commons (or other) license. Iāve been putting that one off because I feel like I have to anticipate changes in AI and similar tech I canāt foresee yet to choose one that is right for meā¦. is that weird? Am I the biggest loser on the beach? Law student overthinking it?
- Pages honoring your dead loved ones. I have something like that in the works..
For the new Bearblog users: make yourself at home with your new blog. If you need further inspiration, thereās also a list by Robert here, one by 32 bit Cafe, and a website gathering Slashpages.
