bear blog question challenge
I recently remembered all the tag games that used to exist on other platforms. You’d get tagged and would answer a catalogue of questions regarding you or your favorite media, then tag others. I thought why not bring it here, even without a tag system? So I thought of a few blog-centric questions to start.
- Why did you make the blog in the first place?
- Why did you choose Bearblog?
- Have you blogged on other platforms before?
- Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?
- When do you feel most inspired to write?
- Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?
- Your favorite post on your blog?
- Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.?
Edit: Since then, Kev Quirk adapted these for non-Bearblog users, so feel free to check that out.
Feel free to copy them and post your own! Maybe Robert, Jedda or Lou would like to…?
Here are my answers:
1. Why did you make the blog in the first place?
It was initially supposed to just be a blog documenting my Odin Project journey, learning Rust, webdev stuff, LFS, some tinkering on the Steam Deck. Almost like a portfolio. Super professional. But then my dog died and I got super sick, and my priorities changed and I barely have time for the above. So I started yapping and haven’t stopped since.
2. Why did you choose Bearblog?
I saw it on HN, and I didn’t have socials like Tumblr anymore and I felt a bit too limited with Gemini on Smolpub. So this seemed a good fit for me.
3. Have you blogged on other platforms before?
Yes. Tumblr, Blogger, and Smolpub.
4. Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?
I write in my phone notes app mostly, then copy it over.
5. When do you feel most inspired to write?
In the bathtub and while trying to fall asleep.
6. Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft?
Many posts are usually in my notes app for a few days or weeks. Only some are copied here immediately. Then I think about 60% of my posts are scheduled to appear later (even if just an hour), rest gets published immediately.
7. Your favorite post on your blog?
Difficult choice. “get with the program”, maybe.
8. Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.?
My blog should have more fun things like secrets to find or funny buttons. My past website had a button that would make it visually distort and get destroyed. I think I should do that here too. And maybe more posts should have a thematically fitting custom CSS, if it makes sense to do so and enhances it.
